Welcome To Lake City South Carolina
Lake City is an agricultural community found in the central part of the state, and part of the Florence Metropolitan Statistical Area. It took the name "Lake City" in celebration of the swimming lakes just north of town. Its economy is dominated by the production of tobacco

This region was originally part of the Williamsburg Township, which was settled by a group of Scotch-Irish immigrants in 1736. The community that would become Lake City was initially known as Graham's Crossroads and later just Graham, both in honor of Aaron Graham, a prominent local landowner.
When the railroad was brought to town in 1856, new growth soon followed. The name was changed at the end of 1883 to avoid conflict with another post office in South Carolina that had already been granted the designation of "Graham." By the end of the 19th century, Lake City was already one of the leading growers of both tobacco and strawberries in the state.
